Golden Thistle II

These thistles are a subject that for some reason draws me in. In the spring time they have a light purple flower that dies as the temperatures rise and by late fall the green outer leaves and the purple flower take on a nice golden glow. Much like the grasses and many other plants in arid California.

Golden Thistle II

This is an image of a thistle found growing alongside of a hiking trail in Northern California.
These are common throughout the area I live but most people don't really pay attention to them other than to keep back away from them as they do have sharp little needles on the stem.
The outer ring of the flower are some relatively wide petals that have turned brown and they are starting to curl do to the lack of water.
The center of the thistle has soft brush like leaves
