This black and white photograph captures a group of people gathered outside a simple, single-story wooden church. The building features a gable roof with two small attic vents near the peak and another vent below them on an external wall.

Several individuals are standing in front of the entrance door, engaged in conversation or waiting to enter. A mix of men, women, and children can be seen wearing attire that suggests mid-20th-century fashion. Men's suits have ties, some with hats perched atop their heads. Women wear dresses with varying lengths; a few are accessorized with hats.

To the right side of the image, another group is gathered near parked cars: an older model sedan and what appears to be a vintage truck. The trees surrounding the church provide shade over parts of it but allow sunlight in other areas.

On closer examination, one can notice handwriting on the photograph's border which reads "Voorhies' Church - Person County, North Carolina" suggesting that this gathering might have taken place after services had concluded at Voorhies’ Church. The lower right corner has a handwritten inscription saying “1938 – C”.
