Many in the terrorist movement, the KKK, saw it as a continuation of the American Civil War. Starting as a veterans' social group, it quickly pivoted to violence against African-Americans.

Via election subversion, the KKK kept African-Americans from voting for ~100 years.

A second version emerged after WW1, taking off nationwide & reaching a membership of 4 million.

100 yrs later, attempts to subvert free & fair elections persist among the newest version of US domestic terrorism.
