Just looking at a satellite image of part of the canal, by using a mapping app.

What are those white things in the canal? Surely they're not geese? There are white geese at that location, but not that many! If they are geese, were they migrating? Flew in just for this photo?

For scale, along the left bank there's a narrowboat, probably 45 feet (14 meters) judging by its proportions.

To the canal's left, running parallel are:, a towpath, a few frees casting shadows, a road, a row of small bushes, and some mowed grass. From the shadows of the trees, we know the photo was taken in the morning.

To the right of the canal is a large, green, grassy stretch, which takes up about a third of the photo.

In the canal itself is one relatively short narrowboat, tied up on the towpath side. And then there's the mysterious thing: perhaps 150 to 200 blurry while blobs, floating on the water, bunched together, stretching from the bottom to the top of the frame. Are they birds?

I know from past visits that there are geese, here – noisy ones, numbering about 25, not several hundred. And almost always some of them are on land. It strikes me as odd.
