I am at least a little bit curious how abnormal higher the airplane near miss rate is than normal this year. I know there's been plenty of times in the past that suddenly media hyperfocus on a thing makes it seem way way worse than it actually is because normally those sorts of things just aren't going to generate clicks.
It probably is higher, but is it a little higher or a whole lot higher.
@JessTheUnstill Runway incursions are pretty rare globally, but they are not at all "serious" in that they happen with enough frequency that pilots handle them under routine go around procedures. Similar to hard landings or when they have to feather the plane right before landing - intense but not abnormal. We're hyper focused on them right now, and all events should be investigated, but the confluence of several crashes within days of each other has everyone rightly skiddish.
