The dichotomy between Critics and Audience on The Electric State is astounding.

I had put this on my list to try to watch tonight, I may still do it but I am wary.

The movie had a reported budget of $320 million.It is one of the most expensive movies ever made.

@mookie it's another one of those properties where the adaptation writers were actively hostile to the story being told in the original graphic novel.

I really didn't like the graphic novel. It's my least fav of Stalenhag's works, and I own them all, but it still burns my biscuits when writers do this to authors.

@mookie @WagesOf I don't think it was the writers and filmmakers being hostile to the original work as much as it was the format that was the problem. There just wasn't enough time in a two hour movie to let the audience marinate in the mysterious environments before explaining absolutely everything.

@mikemccaffrey @mookie the story in the graphic novel has no explanations of anything really, there's no interaction with anyone really.

The writers just had to stfu and let it be lonely and quiet.

The point was completely lost by this adaptation.

I think it's being well received by audiences because people don't know the original work. Which is another artifact of these source hater works. Halo, Foundation, Wheel of Time, many others.
