Another rant about small businesses:
As I’ve said before, I try to support local businesses. But when they’re just not interested… I wanted to buy some quilting fabric - probably $200 worth, not a $4 fat quarter.
The woman who was ‘helping’ me choose fabrics went on lunch. She walked out, when she was serving me, to go to lunch.
The woman who came in to take over from her looked at my choices and said, you’re using that grey. I said it was the recommended colour for the pattern. And she walked off. Now, I don’t think I have BO or bad breath; she just could not be arsed to help.
So I am supporting a local business, just not one local to me. I ordered the whole run of fabrics I wanted from the one spot, delivered to my door. #canberrabusinesses #quilting #onlineshopping #canberra #hobartbusinesses

My wife, Tui Davidson, spent her volunteer energy to provide a not-for-profit funeral service for Canberra. Five years later, Tender Canberra are a successful operation.
On Thursday, I was honoured and proud to attend her graduation from a social entrepreneur course called GRIST from Mill House Ventures. Earthly Remains is her human composting initiative and, as well as working with partners to develop the technology, she is lobbying the ACT government to create legislation to allow it, as 13 US states have done.
The GRIST program supported the creation of a short video which explains it better than I can.
She is also looking to collect data about community attitudes and would appreciate your input on a survey found at the website below.

Been here for several months now, so I guess it’s time update my #introduction post! The following is probably inaccurate!
I’m Alex, better know as Axman6 pretty much everywhere you can think of - IRC (libera.chat#haskell etc.), 🦤 site, probably LinkedIn and others too.
As far as jobs and hobbies are concerned, I’ve been a professional #Haskell developer for nearly a decade, with various roles in finance and #HFT (despite not really having much of an interest in finance…), in the public sector where I worked on much of the #RenewableEnergy parts of https://nationalmap.gov.au at #NICTA & #CSIRO, writing backend services in Haskell, doing lots of #geospatial data processing, #SQL, #DevOps and much more.
Previously writing #Daml, a dialect of Haskell, for a large financial system. Currently working for a Canberra based startup making scientific test and measurement equipment using #FPGAs, #python & #C.
if you’re in need of an experienced remote Haskell dev who loves to make things go fast, I’d love to have a chat.
Previously undertaking Masters in #cybersecurity at #UNSW but gave it up because of the lack of advanced content.
I’ve got a strong interest in #cryptography, #integrity, as well as #hacking things to see how they work, and love a good #CTF.
