Every time I book up a live previous of #Gnome/#Debian, I drool over how good it looks, and then every time I try to *use* it, I get frustrated within a couple of days by this or that and go back to #Cinnamon/#LinuxMint.

I can't decide if I should force myself to really live in Gnome for a few weeks in order to decide if I want to move to it, or if I've already given it a shot, and it's actually just not for me.

J'ai enfin trouvé ce que je cherchais depuis pas mal de temps.
En ce moment je converti du macbook à linux. J'aime bien ces machines et certaines sont loin d'être bonnes pour la décharges ou pour être oubliées au fond d'un placard.
Pour les machines qui ont de l'âge, je trouve intéressant et judicieux de surveiller la température du CPU : d'une part on ne sait pas toujours si l'entretient de base est fait ET il ne faut pas non plus sur estimer leur capacités. Un peu de traitement de texte, trainer sur le net et regarder quelques vidéos sur le net. Par contre faut oublier le streaming intensif ou certains jeux en ligne.
Tout ce pavé pour dire que je voulais pouvoir surveiller en direct sans ouvrir de logiciels la température des machines.
J'ai trouvé rapidement sous #mint #cinnamon le greffon qui va bien MAIS c'est un peu gourmand pour une différence minime en utilisation basique. Je préfère #xfce qui est moins gourmand et que l'on peut personnaliser et avoir quelque chose d'aussi joli que cannelle. Le problème c'est que pas de greffon inclus dans les distris que ce soit avec mint ou #debian
Je cherche sur le net, voit des choses compliquées et là, le truc super bête auquel j'avais pas pensé mais alors du tout c'était de regarder dans les dépôts de #synaptics !
J'ai vite trouvé ce que je cherchais et donc me voici en train de mettre #debianfacile sur le macbook.
Maintenant, je vais aller finir d'installer tout ça proprement !!!

Again and again I ask myself:

Why do #Cinnamon, #Gnome, #KDE, #LXDE, #MATE, #Xfce etc. have an icon or logo, but my favourite WM, #exwm, does not? Where are the #Emacs artists when they are most needed?

I was able to get #Hyprland WM running alongside my #cinnamon DE in #opensuse. I’m still stumbling around zypper and opi, but making progress overall. But, this is the best overall experience I’ve had so far on my #razerblade14. #linux

Been using #opensuse Tumbleweed on my laptop for a day. So far it seems like everything just works with my 2024 #razerblade14. I’m still learning the OS and it’s not #arch or #nixos but it works, so that’s something. I already miss the #AUR. But my sound and WiFi work without hacks or scripts being run at startup. I was able to get #cinnamon and #Hyprland running side by side without any hassle. #linux

Well, I’m a few hours into using #nixos and wow, I'm quite surprised at how awesome it all is. #nvidia working without fuss, #steam and #lutris installed and games working. Started with #gnome and switched to #cinnamon with just a few config changes and a reboot and literally just worked. I had a little headache with the installer and getting swap with hibernate working, but after that it's been easy. Pretty excited to keep testing, I may have found my new distro. #linux

I'm trialing switching from #lmde6 to #arch on my desktop. After a few goofs with lib32 drivers, I have successfully got #lutris and #steam working properly. I've got all of my themes and applications installed. I'm still using #cinnamon, so the desktop looks nearly identical, but having better documentation and access to the #aur really makes things easier overall. Not quite ready to wipe my #debian install, but have not booted into it in two days. #linux

Installed #arch on my second drive. Got everything installed and set up with #cinnamon and then went to load up #hyprland and realized that #lightdm doesn’t work with #wayland. Looks like I’m going to install Hyprland first tomorrow with #sddm and then set up Cinnamon second. At least I can go from #archinstall to usable system in under an hour with my post-install scripts.
