I read that a rich and famous person died today. I'm still here. Which one of us is better off? While we are all destined to die in the end, it's hard to say because nobody truly knows what happens after death. There is a lot of speculation on the subject. The most logical explanation, which is the least accepted, is that our biological functions cease, and that's that. The most widely accepted explanation, based on Christianity—the largest world religion—suggests that we go to a spiritual realm or heaven. Oh gee, it must be Monday. I can't believe I just wrote this.

I have just heard that Christian, a childhood friend of mine, has died. We hadn't spoken for years until I met him again last month after his mother's death.
He had moved away, but our mothers remained friends, so he came to visit my mum with his dad to thank her for the speech she gave at his mother's funeral. It was a coincidence that I went to see my mum on the same day.
We didn't talk much and before last month I hadn't thought about him for years. But now I am shocked.
