Do your best to resist #nihilism, because nihilism destroys nuance, and almost everything valuable in life exists inside nuance.

Resist saying #nihilistic things like “who cares about privacy; your data is already out there”, “who cares about stopping climate change; it’s already too late”, “who cares about voting; we don’t have a democracy any more”, and any number of similarly simplistic, thought-destroying nonsense.

Nihilism is faux-intellectualism. It’s attempting to impress people with rational-sounding generalizations that lead to absurd, defeatist behavior. It’s a claim of “being real” while being too lazy to think through the problem. It’s feeling superior by kicking a table on which someone else is doing their homework.

Nuance exists even during a crisis—it’s arguably even more important then. Things can ALWAYS get worse, and things can ALWAYS get better. Working to make things better is worth doing. Feeling smug and telling people to give up is not; it’s the asshole’s easy way out.

American #nihilism isn't the outright rejection of values. It's the hollowing out of them until they're decorative husks, suitable for parades & press conferences, but useless in practice. The recent political oscillations between technocratic inertia & performative populism have deepened this void.
#Kleptokakistocracy & #kakokleptocracy aren't aberrations. They're natural outgrowths of a system where cynicism has metastasized into common sense.

I learned in fedi-posts/toots that yesterday/today [timezone crap] is apparently the annual Trans Day of Remembrance. I didn't know that, i didn't know there was such a thing [maybe it's a Merkan thing?]. Other times i read that it's annual Pride Day again, but similarly [though in this case yes i have heard of it] i never know it's coming, til i begin reading of it again. I live under my rock, keeping myself alone at home, participating in no LGBTQI community of any kind, not being activist in any way, just trying to be motivated enough to bother getting outta bed each morning. I wonder if more trans peeps are public & active, or solitary & inactive like me. I admire those with the courage, determination, fortitude, & self-confidence. I know how to spell those words, but that's all. Onya, fellow trans peeps. 🤗 💜

When I read all that's going wrong in the world, I feel like having a breakdown. But because I'm intersectionally oppressed, I feel like I'm not allowed to have a breakdown. I have to be strong. I have to ignore all my triggers, and expose myself to everything that causes me despair and stress.. because I have to be informed of what all the evil people are doing. But I can't take any more of this stress! I wanna have my breakdown! I wanna cry, and scream, and hurl my computer out the window! Then I wanna go play with my dolls, read a book that amuses me, and forget about how much the world sucks.
