This is a male Cock of the Rock who just got chased off by another male. Neither went far, and the displaying at the lek continued for some time. A brilliant blue hummingbird with a small white slice of nape sits on a bare snag. The dark shadow behind the bird makes the background look black, causing the brilliant blue head and shimmering greeny-blue body to stand out. This is the White-necked Jacobin. While this is the standard adult male form, about 10% of the birds in this plumage are now known to be females while 90% of females have a different plumage. A hummingbird with violet on its face and belly dominates the image. Flying with wings spread at the viewer, it tries to stop you from seeing the blurred spatula of a tail of a bird that this Sparkling Violetear has just shoved out of the upper right of the frame. OK the Hermit Thrush is coming & going, i still can't go outside & photograph without flushing birb but I have a slightly better photo through window glass & hope to get much better photos once the bird acclimates to my presence (assuming borb chooses to spend the winter here)

A large tropical orange flower with a great many tubular florets on it is growing in a sunny area with a dappled woods blurred in the distance behind it. On the flower perches an alert little bird with a blue face, back, wings, and tail, and rusty orange underparts sweeping from the vent to the chin. The beak is slightly open, making it obvious that the upper mandible has a large hook in it. This is the male Rusty Flowerpiercer. A fancy hummingbird has positioned himself on a vine to display in front of a dappled wood. He is flaring the feathers on the top of his head, flashing the iridescent turquoise feathers of his throat, and spreading the very long tail feathers. The two straight tail feathers are pointed down in a skinny V. The two outer tail feathers and curved dramatically to point in opposite directions.
