Hey folks, it is #TomWaitsAWeek week!
Here is my Log entry #1
First up is Tom Waits' debut "Closing Time". This album might be the most classic and straight forward singer/songwriter album in his discography.
His voice is mellow (by his standards), the arrangements are sentimental and sweet. There are excellent ballads (Martha, Closing Time) and bluesy jazzy tunes (Ol' 55).
The one song that stood out in this listening session was the uplifting Ice Cream Man.
This album is like a fine dinner at a classy smokey dark restaurant. Mr. Waits is the piano player.

Have you heard of this underappreciated anti-war song?
It had a big impact on me during my "political awakening" in the W Bush years. It's hard to believe this album is 20 years old this month.
