🆕 blog! “Review: The Cheapest USB-C Headphones I Could Find”
★★★★★
Ever since phone manufacturers killed off the headphone jack, there has been an epidemic of people blasting sounds from their shitty speakers in public. Music, TikTok, phone calls - it seems some people want the whole world to share their sonic experience. Forget that noise! I have a p…

So, one of the items I'm planning to invest in for #PowerOutages is a #Solar #CellPhone charger with #USB (rather than trying to charge them using the car) -- since the phones are a way to keep in touch with the outside world (in addition to battery-operated radios). If there's enough wattage on the charger, I could potentially run my PC laptop (that has a DVD drive) and watch movies (can't do that with a Mac). Reading books is great to do during the day, but at night, it's been nice to be able to watch a movie (usually a comedy).

UK ponders #USB-C as common charging standard - https://www.theregister.com/2024/10/14/uk_usbc_charging_standard/ "and if this needs to be the same as the USB-C connector the EU adopted." more #brexit self-harm if it isn't....
This week, Antione van Gelder( @antoinevg ) was on with Elecia( @logicalelegance ) and Chris( @stoneymonster ) to discuss digital instruments, USB and FPGAs.
You can listen here: https://embedded.fm/episodes/486.
They discussed USB device classes.
Here's an excerpt:
“USB 4 version 2.0”. Right, right right right. Because USB-C, Thunderbolt-3, USB 2 power cable, USB 3, USB 4/Thunderbolt-4, etc etc are not confusing enough.

This is the smallest bike pump I've ever seen!
It recharges with #USB Type-C, and supports schrader and presta valves!
Doubt it could handle mountain bike tires, but still nice to have in an emergency.
TIL I should follow my own advice more often, specifically:
"I have had intermittent issues with boards when connected by a USB hub or one of those USB-A to micro or USB-C adapters. If you have problems, connect with a known good USB cable directly to the host computer."
I still want to know why this is the case! Is there firmware in a hub, or is it just power management and switches? I have `dmesg` logs if anyone cares. 😉

Heyy all. Looking for a #USB #microphone that also supports #stereo mainly a plug and play no complex setup under $150 or near that price. easy to use as a normal desktop microphone but that also doens't suck as a vocal mic. Aaaaaaand gooooooo.
Finally received the #Cynthion #USB analyzer by @GreatScottGadgets and powered by the #LUNA gateware. So far it looks and feels very solid!
I created a "one chip" #opensource #hardware #modular #diysynth TrebleSynth (https://www.github.com/profdc9/TrebleSynth) based on the #raspberrypi pico. Create subtractive and FM #synth instruments with 6 voice polyphony by connecting modules (VCO,ADSR,LFO,VCA,etc.) and #analog controls. Supports #MIDI #USB and #serial with built-in keyboard, expression pedals, many effects such as reverb/delay/flanger/chorus included. Cheap, commodity hardware and easy #diy through-hole assembly.
The long wait is over for users of FreeBSD.
Uncomplicated use of PulseAudio is on the horizon.

I'm thinking about setting up a #udev rule that triggers some actions when a given device is removed. For that I'd like a minimal #usb device/token, think "only vendorid and productid", no actual functionality (which could fail and cause issues, etc.). Does anyone have a source for something like that? It's obviously ridiculously niche and not at all cost-effective to manufacture...
